About the Surrey Directory

What this site does

Most searches for a local business are about one town. Some are bigger: the best-rated dentist anywhere in Surrey, or whether Farnham or Camberley has more garages to choose from. The Surrey Directory handles the second kind. It lines up 1,634 businesses in 18 trades so they can be compared across the county.

How it fits with the town directories

Guildford, Camberley, Farnham, Epsom, Woking and Reigate each have a directory of their own. Those 6 sites keep the business profiles, neighbourhood pages, guides and news. This site keeps none of that. It adds what a single town site cannot show: county rankings, town-against-town tables and the borough map. Every business name here is a link to its profile on the town site, so the two never carry the same page.

What the rankings are based on

Google star ratings and review counts, as recorded on the date printed on the page (most recently 10 October 2026). To be ranked, a business must have 25 reviews or more. Higher rating wins, and more reviews settles a tie. We do not add scores of our own, and a business cannot buy a better position. Advertising on a town directory is separate and is ignored here.

“What customers bring up most” lists the subjects Google highlights in a business’s reviews, added up across the county. Averages are plain means of the ratings on show.

What is not covered yet

Surrey has 11 boroughs and districts and this guide reaches into 6 of them. There is no town directory yet in Runnymede, Spelthorne, Elmbridge, Mole Valley or Tandridge, so businesses there are missing from the comparisons. Some towns were also added before ratings were collected and show as “not yet rated”. The borough map shows the current position.

Corrections and listings

Changes are made at the source. To add a business, see List a business. To fix or remove one, contact the town directory that holds its profile and this site updates at its next refresh. Advertising across several towns is handled by The Directory King.
